Directions for completing the BHS 9th grade registration form:
READ ALL OF THE DIRECTIONS FIRST and look at the 2 example forms below before completing your registration form. Use a pencil so you can make changes.
*Two example forms are below- one with World Language chosen and one without World Language.

1. At the top, write your LAST NAME then your FIRST NAME.
2. Look at section B. Physical Education/Wellness. Put a checkmark next to one choice.
  • What is JROTC? Use the Freshman Course Catalog here to read more about it.
3. Right above section C. Electives/Pathway Courses, draw a line across the page.
  • From this section down, you will be selecting 8 classes total. The classes you pick in section C and D will add up to 8. If you choose World Language, that counts as part of your 8.
  • Look at the class options on the registration form and use the Freshman Course Catalog here to read the class descriptions.
4. Put a star or dash next to the classes that interest you.
  • If more than 8 classes interest you, you will narrow it down to 8. If fewer than 8 classes interest you, you will pick a few more classes. In the end, you should have 8 classes with a dash or star next to them. If you choose World Language, that counts as part of your 8.
5. Once you have 8 classes chosen, go back and number them in order of preference.
  • If you're really interested in a class, make it one of your top 4. If it doesn't interest you as much, label it a higher number (5-8). All classes chosen should be numbered 1-8. Look at the examples below to make sure you have completed the registration form correctly.

Discovering talents and deciding what classes to take can be challenging. 8th graders will be taking the YouScience assessment on January 23rd to help discover where their skills and interests meet! This will help narrow down their high school classes, college and career choices.

During YouScience, students play a series of brain games to discover their aptitudes and interests. Once finished, each student gets a custom report that spotlights their skills and matching educational pathways, including CTE certifications, careers, college options and salary ranges. This allows them to explore high-demand careers that are a good fit for them and gain a better understanding of how their unique talents fit into available careers.

Please encourage your student to complete the games to the best of their ability. Families and students will have access to review the results once available. Students login through Clever and click "Aptitude & Career Discovery." Check out this video for more info about results: https://vimeo.com/498427205

YouScience is NOT a test. The results will be used to schedule which clusters students will learn about during the Pathways Fair in February so it is important for students to try their best so they get accurate results.

On February 7th, during the Pathways Fair, students will rotate between four sessions that match their YouScience results. They will learn about high school classes and clubs and explore a few careers.

The fair is designed to help students learn which high school classes can prepare them for a career path that matches their skills and interests. These matches include jobs they never knew existed or considered for careers. This experience will be very helpful for students as they register for their 9th-grade classes in the upcoming weeks.

It will be an exciting day, and we are so happy to be able to provide students with this learning opportunity in partnership with Rutherford Works and the Rutherford County Chamber of Commerce.
