Daily Agenda

In an effort to prepare you for the timed writing prompt that you will be participating in next week when you come back to school, this week we will be practicing annotating, answering text based questions and writing an informational essay. Please follow the steps for each day to make sure that you are ready when you come back to school next week.

 

Wednesday, January 6th, 2021

1. Please review the informational writing rubric. Think about the rubric as you gather evidence from the text while annotating (Take Notes). Ask yourself: What should be included in my informational essay?
2. Read the writing prompt:
You have now read two passages about perseverance. Write an informational essay explaining the benefits of persevering through every obstacle life presents. Be sure to use evidence from both of the texts to support your answer.
3. Read and annotate text one: “The Power and Passion of Perseverance.” As you are annotating ask yourself: What is the text saying about persevering? What evidence will help me answer the prompt? What connections can I make to the text?
4. Answer all the text based questions that follow the article.
5. Use the following picture to answer the questions:

1.Read and review the writing prompt:

1. Review the rubric and writing prompt.
2. You will have eighty-five minutes to complete the timed informational writing assessment. Please read the following steps to completing the timed writing prompt:
  • What is the prompt asking of you? 2 minutes
  • Read and Annotate the Texts. 20 minutes
  • Answering Questions (The questions will all be multiple choice) 5 minutes
  • Thinking Map 5 minutes
  • Writing Time 53 minutes
We have already completed steps 1-3. Now, we need to figure out what our three main points are by creating a thinking map.

1. Bell Work: Write a CEA paragraph describing your Thanksgiving Break.

2. Read the text,  "Battle Brewing Over Sugary Drinks.”

3. Write: Write a short response to summarize the disagreement between any two people or organizations in the article. If you were to support the claims made by only one of these parties, who would it be? Why?

DL Student Directions Case Assessment Clever Student Portal

Day One – Monday, 11/16

1. Please use the Google Chrome browser only.

2. Go to the Clever dashboard and the Mastery Connect App.

3. Find the test on your student dashboard and click START TEST. It is very important that you click START TEST or your answers will not be saved.

4. It is very important that you click on the link that says START TEST. You can read and answer questions in a preview mode but this will not save your answers.

5. For Monday, Day One, please Pause the test after answering question #19.

6. If you receive Read Aloud Accommodations, you will see the text to speech player on your page. You can move around the page using the four arrows, play to hear the text read aloud, pause or stop the audio.

7. Everyone will select the answer by clicking on the bubble under each question.

8. Hit the Pause button after completing question #19. Do not hit Finish until after the second part of the test tomorrow.

9. This part of the assessment will take roughly 50-60 minutes.

Please do not hit Finish until you have answered all questions at the end of the test on Tuesday.

Day Two -Tuesday, 11/17

10. Please use the Google Chrome browser only.

11. Go to the Clever dashboard and the Mastery Connect App.

12. Find the test on your student dashboard and click RESUME or START TEST.

13. For Tuesday, Day 2 you will complete questions #20-40

  2. Then, Read the poem, “Harlem” (attached to the TEAMS Assignment)
  3. Answer all questions
  4. Answer the following prompt in CEA form:

Based on the poem and what we have read so far in the text, explain why Hansberry titled the play, A Raisin in the Sun. Write a CEA paragraph using evidence from the poem and the play.

Tuesday, November 10th, 2020

Assignment on TEAMS

  1. If you have not finished the CFA on Mastery Connect- it must be completed by the end of the day.
  2. Read The beginning of ACT 2 Scene 3. You can stop when Mr. Lindner exits.
  3. Then write a CEA paragraph that answers this question: Describe exactly how your character reacts to Mr. Lindner’s visit, and then explain why Mr. Lindner represents an obstacle for your character.
  4. Also, don’t forget our meeting from 1:30-2.

  • The STEAL Chart and TEXT with questions is attached to the assignment in TEAMS.
  1. It is time to take a closer look at the characters in A Raisin in the Sun. Go back into the text to identify & explain aspect of the character. Find at least one textual example for each element of characterization (S.T.E.A.L.). 

     

    *You will be filling this out for Walter, Ruth, Beneatha, and Mama. Please make sure that you scroll down to the bottom to complete a STEAL chart for all four characters. Please put the quote and page number you found it on in the left-hand column and the explanation in the right-hand column.

  2. Read and annotate the TEXT, "Segregated From its History, How Ghetto Lost its Meaning."
  3. Answer ALL of the questions about the text.
