2020/2021

Curriculum:

The seventh grade math curriculum is based on the frameworks designed by the Tennessee Department Education.  In this class, students will focus on learning the 7th grade Math standards.  Every effort will be made to provide hands-on opportunities, integrate technology, differentiate instruction, and present lessons in a variety of formats to suit all learning styles.   Students will be tested near the end of the year on the 7th Grade Math TNReady test.

Textbooks:

We will use two consumable textbooks in class from the Curriculum Associates. We will use the Instruction book and the Practice and Problem Solving book.  These books are consumable meaning the students can write in them.  Students will be responsible to bring these books to and from class daily.

Course Needs:

Students are required to bring the following supplies to class every day:

 Pencil, Pencil, Pencil

    • Textbook & Workbook
    • Composition book
    • Loose leaf paper
    • Your homework.
    • Any other supplies needed for the day such as colored pencils, dry erase marker, highlighter, etc. will be written on the board and screen.

Absentee Policy:

When a student is absent, he/she should check One Note for content covered.  He/she may copy any notes from One Note online.  Any worksheets handed out in class will be on the counter in the back of the room. It is the student’s responsibility, not the teacher’s, to turn in work collected while absent.  Students have 5 days from the day they return to make up the work, work not turned in within this time will be considered late.

Homework Policy:

Homework is an integral part of the curriculum and essential to reinforce material taught in class.  Homework is considered late if it is not in the teacher’s hands (or completed at their desk) at the start of class. Students should work on something from math class every night.   When no written homework is assigned, students should do one of the following:  go over notes and examples covered in class; study ahead in the textbook or complete an IREADY lesson.

Outside Resources:  Students needing assistance outside of class should utilize external resources when at home.

    • Reference textbook notes or notes taken in class
    • Reference One Note online
    • Call Homework Hotline
    • Phone a friend
    • Watch videos from websites such as but not limited to Khan Academy, Math Antics, Teacher Tube

Grading Policy:

Grades will be divided into two main categories:

50%- Formative assessments (examples but not limited to: daily work, quizzes, CFA, bell work, homework, etc.); these assignments FORM or direct future instruction

50%- Summative assessments (examples but not limited to: test, long term projects, extended writing, presentations, etc.); these assessments are a summary of content mastered

We will have a minimum of 15 formative grades and 4 summative grades per 9 weeks.

Retake Policy:

Each student will have the opportunity to retake ONE test per grading period in each class. Corrections and citing evidence for the correct answer will be due before the retake can occur. Students have one week from the time they receive the results of the test to request a retake. Once the student has used this opportunity, he/she will not be allowed to retake another test in that class for the remainder of that grading period.

Late Policy:

When homework grades are given, students must have all late work turned in for the first half of the grading period (up until progress reports) one week from the progress reports being handed out. All late work from the last half of the grading period must be turned in by the end of the 8th week. No late work will be accepted the last week of the grading period. A maximum grade of an 80 will be given on any assignment turned in late.

Classroom Expectations:

    • Be Prompt
    • Be Prepared
    • Be Polite
    • Be Positive
    • Be Productive

Students will be redirected when not complying by expectations.  When redirection becomes frequent and not effective, parents will be contacted and student’s behavior will be logged in the behavior log.
